Teachings on marriage

What Śrīla Prabhupāda and senior Vaishnavas have said about a marriage lived for Krishna.

…both the husband and wife are true benefactors for one another.

Writing to Balai, a young devotee wife, Prabhupāda sets two kinds of marriage side by side. Where each partner is looking for their own pleasure, friction follows and the home comes apart. Where husband and wife both serve Krishna and help each other grow spiritually, each becomes a real gift to the other — and with that shared purpose, he says, there is no reason for serious quarrels or for separation.

So in Krsna Consciousness the wife is never a burden, but she is completely a counterpart.

Vrndavana Candra had written from Baltimore about his preaching, and Prabhupāda was glad to hear that his wife was working beside him. A wife who supports spiritual life, he explains, is a true friend and guide — never a weight to be carried, but a full partner in the mission. He asks the couple to show the young people around them how a husband and wife can live peacefully while both serve Krishna.

…both you and your husband can preach Krishna Consciousness combinedly.

Krsna Devi was afraid that her husband might be advised to leave family life. Prabhupāda reassured her that he would never ask him to: a man whose wife helps his service has no need to renounce his home. Rather than seeing each other as an obstacle, he writes, husband and wife can take Krishna consciousness to others together — the mission matters more than who carries it.
