Frequently asked questions

If your question is not here, your counsellor is the right person to ask first — they know you, and they can reach the Marriage Board on your behalf.

Joining

Who this is for, and what is asked of you before a bio-data is published.

Who can register?

Any devotee of marriageable age connected to an ISKCON centre, whether or not you have taken initiation. You will need a counselor at your centre who is willing to verify your bio-data.

What if I am not initiated yet?

You are welcome. Initiation is one of the things a bio-data records, not a condition of registering, and many devotees here are not initiated.

Why does my counselor need to be involved?

Because verification is what makes this different from a public matrimony site. Somebody who actually knows you confirms what you have written, which is the assurance every other devotee here is relying on.

Can my parents manage my bio-data?

Yes. A parent or sibling can hold the account, and the bio-data records that they are doing so.

Should I ever send money to someone I meet here?

No, whatever the reason you are given. Nobody from this community will ever ask you to send money to another devotee. If anyone does, stop and tell your counsellor.

Review and approval

What happens between submitting a bio-data and it becoming visible.

How long does approval take?

Usually five to seven days with your counselor, and a similar period with the Marriage Board. You are told at each stage where it has reached.

What if my counselor sends my bio-data back?

That is not a refusal, and it is the normal way a bio-data improves. They send a note saying what needs correcting, you change it, and it returns to the same place in the queue.

Who reads my bio-data before it is live?

Your own counselor and the Marriage Board, and nobody else. No other devotee can see a bio-data that has not been approved, whatever their role.

Privacy

Who can see what, and when. These are the answers with a mechanism behind them.

Who can see my photographs?

Nobody, until both you and another devotee have expressed interest — that is the default, and you can change it in your settings. Photographs are stored privately, are never public, and every link to one expires within minutes.

Who can see my phone number?

Only the Marriage Board and your own counselor, until the Board releases your details after a mutual expression of interest. No devotee can reach your contact details by browsing.

What are the confidential questions for?

The Marriage Board has learned that a few difficult subjects — health, financial difficulty, and history of abuse — matter for a lasting marriage and are hard to raise later. Your answers are encrypted, are read only by Board members, every reading is recorded, and they never appear on your bio-data, in search, or in any PDF.

Is my bio-data visible to search engines?

No. Every page of the signed-in application refuses to be indexed, and a bio-data is visible only to signed-in devotees whose own bio-data has been approved.

Your account

Pausing, leaving, and taking your information with you.

Can I pause or delete my bio-data?

Yes, at any time, from your settings. Pausing hides it from search immediately. Deleting removes your personal information and your photographs after a short grace period in which you can change your mind.

Can I download everything you hold about me?

Yes. Settings gives you a single file with your bio-data, your confidential answers, your photographs' details, every approach you sent and received, and the record of every message we sent you. It downloads to your device; we do not email it and we keep no copy.

How do I report a concern about another devotee?

Tell your counselor and the Marriage Board. Every bio-data carries a way to report it, and a report reaches a moderator rather than the devotee you are reporting.
